An update from Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team
Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team received a grant from the Hospital Saturday Fund of £2000 in February 2019. Some of this grant was spent on much needed frontline medical equipment which included full body Mediwrap blankets.
These are used with a variety of patients to protect them from the cold, wound and equipment contamination and any type of weather conditions on the North Yorkshire Moors.
The bulk of the grant was used to purchase training equipment. This included a full body choking simulator, one full size and four small training defibrillators and a family of three mannequins. These have really enhanced our basic life support and AED training programme.
Previously, due to a limited amount of equipment, team members had to train individually which obviously took a long time. But now, with this new equipment combined with our existing mannequins, we can set up five different scenarios. This enables our members to deal with different patient conditions in a variety of situations all at the same time. Our members have really benefited because they are getting increased ‘hands on’ practical experience using defibrillators more often. It has been so successful with our full search and rescue members that we are rolling out a training programme for our support members. Thank you HSF!
