Teapot Trust update
The Teapot Trust was set up in 2010 by Laura and John Young in memory of their daughter Verity. Verity spent most of her short life “coping with illness and managing the effects that her treatment (first for lupus then for cancer) had upon her young body”. During her time in hospital, Verity often turned to art as a way of coping with her conditions and as a self-expression tool.
The Teapot Trust was formed on the premise of providing sick children with support, friendship, security and relief, just as a cup of tea provides. As it did for Verity, the art therapy service also provides children with an outlet to put their thoughts on a page.
The Hospital Saturday Fund recently provided a grant to the Teapot Trust, which went towards a new art therapy service at the Noble’s Hospital Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAHMS). This has given many young people the opportunity to participate in the programme, and ultimately has resulted in them having the ability to cope better with their situation, as recognised by hospital staff, patients and parents alike.
