PictureHouse Visit
Paul Clare and I recently made the trip to PictureHouse in Dublin to assess a grant application for their Outreach Programme.
We met with Ronan Murphy, Non-Executive Director, and Sarah Sharkey, Dublin International Film Festival Managing Director. Ronan expressed his commitment towards increasing the number of PictureHouse presentations being held this year, noting that a grant from The Hospital Saturday Fund would be a “game changer” towards achieving this goal.
Who is PictureHouse?
PictureHouse has been delivering cinematic experiences to audiences that can’t easily access the big screen since 2012. The charity is backed by the Dublin International Film Festival, a not-for-profit organisation bringing Irish audiences the very best in international and contemporary cinema, and has Academy Award Winning actress Brenda Fricker as a patron.
Screenings are organised in a variety of settings including old age centres, hospitals and prisons, where guests are treated to the full Hollywood movie premiere treatment, complete with a red carpet. Recent venues visited by the charity include Meath Community Unit and St Luke’s Hospital.
Where to from here?
PictureHouse is positively contributing towards the wellbeing of patients in Dublin and its surrounding areas and we hope they are able to continue their work and provide this experience for many more people in the future.
