Beaumond House Community Hospice update

Upgrade of the patient lift operating system, replacing ‘out-dated’ parts and software.

Beaumond House logo

Beaumond House Community Hospice provides supportive palliative care to patients with life limiting or terminal illnesses and wider support to their families. Our services are provided to those who are over 18 years old and live within a 15-mile radius of Newark-on-Trent.

Our lift has been installed since the opening of our first-floor in-patient rooms some 26 years ago and provides travel between floors for patients and visitors who have restricted mobility, especially wheelchair users. Our lift is also used daily to help staff move items which are either awkward and/or heavy to carry on the stairs, including laundry, medical equipment and catering trolleys.

It was identified that our lift’s electronic operating system required updating, failure to do so would risk break-down with an extensive period of out-of-service due to parts obsolesce. Many of our patients and their families are unable to use stairs and depend upon the lift to travel between floors to access all hospice areas.

The £2000 donation from The Hospital Saturday Fund has enabled the funding of this upgrade, ensuring the uninterrupted continuity of this essential lift service and avoid a distressing loss of access for patients, their visitors and interruption to the general running of our hospice. We now have a reassuring confidence in our lift reliability for many years to come plus a smoother lift ride quality for our frail patients.
