Update on Alice House Hospice

It is now 6 months since we received a generous donation of £2,000 from the Trustees of The Hospital Saturday Fund towards the purchase of an Ultrasound Bladder Scanner. Alice House Hospice is now the very proud owner of a Bladder Scan Prime and stand. Emma Mussard, Registered Nurse Clinical Education and Standards is pictured showing off our Bladder Scanner is attached.

The best thing about the Bladder Scanner is it is non-invasive for the patient. This in turn gives the patient much more dignity and less discomfort and pain than catheterisation. Reducing the need of catheterisation also reduces catheter-associated urinary tract infection, which is a common problem for patients.

The bladder scan is a safe, painless and reliable procedure that allows Alice House Hospice to assess the volume of urine retained within a patient’s bladder. Alice House Hospice did not previously own a Bladder Scanner and had to borrow one from the nearby University Hospital of Hartlepool which was very unsatisfactory. Our medical team is delighted to have this wonderful piece of equipment available for immediate use on site. It is quick and easy to use with very little preparation and more importantly is very comfortable and safe for our patients.

It would be extremely difficult for us to afford to purchase expensive but necessary equipment like the Bladder Scanner Prime without the help of trusts like The Hospital Saturday Fund.

Our patients’ are already dealing with so much. We cannot thank you enough for helping us to make things just a little easier.
