Grant for Eyegaze technology, Leonard Cheshire Disability, Penzance

Following a grant of £10,000 awarded to Leonard Cheshire Disability for Eyegaze technology, HSF’s CEO, Paul Jackson, and Charity Manager, Louise Kent, were invited to Leonard Cheshire’s St Teresa’s care home in Penzance to meet with the CEO of Leonard Cheshire, Clare Pelham, together with staff and residents to view a demonstration of the technology. Paul and Louise had previously seen a demonstration at the Leonard Cheshire offices in London and had been very impressed with how the Eyegaze equipment enables someone who is physically disabled to use a computer by tracking tiny movements in their eyes. Primarily used as a communication device, the equipment is also an effective social, activity and therapeutic tool bringing many potential benefits to the users. To now see this state-of-the-art technology being used by the residents and hearing just what a difference this was making to their lives was extremely interesting, especially hearing of the many different ways the technology can assist both socially and in terms of the person’s development.
